Mountain Biking in Moab, Utah
Once known as the Uranium Capitol of the World, Moab, Utah has now become a mountain biking mecca. The most popular trail is 'Slickrock' with its own parking lot and designated outhouses. There is a shorter practice loop here for the novice rider to get acquainted with riding a bike off trail. View Porcupine Rim Photo Gallery
While these features are great for the masses, those looking for a more adventurous, rugged and scenic ride may consider the 'Porcupine Rim' trail. It runs along a ridge that stretches from the La Sal Mountain range to the Colorado River. Views run west through Castle Valley to Fisher Towers and beyond. Look north into Arches National Park, west to Canyonlands National Park, and south toward the snow capped peaks of the La Sals. After a short climb to the ridge, the mountain biker is rewarded with long descents, rock ledges, jumps and quick turns. Getting a ride from Acme Shuttle (435.260.2534) to the trailhead avoids the long, sandy uphill on Sand Flats Rd.
